Sydney Rugby Union has announced the induction of Brett Papworth as an honorary life member following the AGM, recognising his extraordinary service and commitment to rugby.

Brett Papworth is a lifelong member of Eastwood Rugby Club, having served on their board for over 25 years and serving as President since 2007.

Brett began at Eastwood following in the footsteps of his father Bill, after coming out of Epping Boys High. Having played over 68 matches at the Woods, he did it the hard way following his stint with the Sydney Roosters through the courts when the IRB declined his application to rejoin rugby union.

Working his way back through 4th grade, into 3rd Grade, he made it back into 1st Grade in 1994 and continued playing.

Once retired, he joined the Woods board in 2001, where he continues to serve as President.

As Vice President of Sydney Rugby Union, he served for several years on the SRU board. Outside of Rugby and serving as a Director, Brett was a member of the ABC commentary team for over 20 years, having called the famous Eastwood Shute Shield victory in 1999. He would go on to call another 5 Premierships for Eastwood along with countless iconic Shute Shield moments.

Sydney Rugby Union will honour Brett at the Catchpole Medal to be held in August.
