After another competitive season, the Charter Hall Shute Shield is set to be decided on 31 August following a three-week finals series featuring the top six teams.
The finals series will culminate at Leichhardt Oval on Saturday 31 August, with the Shute Shield Final to kick off at 2:45 pm, an earlier than traditional match time due to the 2024 Paralympics coverage on Channel Nine.
It caps off a festival of rugby at Leichhardt Oval, with Fourth Grade, Third Grade and Second Grade to be played on 31 August in the lead-up to First Grade.
All Colts competitions will mirror the six-team finals series used across the Grade competitions. Colts Grand Finals will play out on Saturday 1 September, with Sydney Rugby Union to announce the location of these finals shortly.
General Manager of Sydney Rugby Union, Peter Watkins, says it is a fitting way to celebrate another hard-fought year of Shute Shield rugby.
“Having all Grand Finals play out over one action-packed weekend delivers an unmissable experience for rugby fans across Sydney,” he said.
“Season 2024 is set to feature one of the closest finals series in recent memory. With the entire Charter Hall Shute Shield Finals series to be aired Ad-Free, Live and On-Demand on Stan Sport and one match each weekend on Nine GEM, fans won’t miss a minute of the action.
“Thanks to our broadcast partners Nine, Stan Sport and Rugby Australia - following this season’s finals has never been easier for our fans.”
With only 7 points currently separating the top-six teams in the Shute Shield, it remains all to play for as we enter the final two rounds of the regular season.
This weekend's fixture between Gordon and Norths is just one of many influential match-ups, as teams look to secure a dominant position ahead of the Semi-Finals on 17 August.
Within the Colin Caird Shield (Second Grade), the final fortnight of the regular season will prove all-important for clubs like West Harbour and Eastwood who remain in contention for Finals in 2024.
In the Henderson Shield (Third Grade), Sydney University will hope for a strong concluding fortnight as they attempt to hold off Warringah for sixth. Whilst in the Henderson Cup (Fourth Grade), Easts and Norths are favourites to secure top spots heading into the first week of finals.
“Leichhardt Oval offers the perfect stage for the biggest match of the year. We saw in 2023 how fantastic the atmosphere was for Randwick, Norths and Shute Shield fans alike,” Watkins said.
“I’m sure every fan is eager to see their club feature on that last Saturday in August.”
